SUCCESS at week 2!!!

Congratulations to me!!!!!!!

Fellow blog lovers!!!!!! I have lost 1.52 Kilos!!!!!! ¬†I know its not much, but by small and simple things are great things brought to pass!!! ūüėČ Time for an inspirational meme!!!!


So Yes, I did actually take down my weight before I started.  I wont tell you what it is, cos its a secret.  However I will tell you That I am going to try sooooo hard to lose 30 Kilos (66 Pounds).  But one thing I have learnt with goal setting, and especially in reference to weight loss, is to have small short term goals.  My first goal is to lose 5Kgs (11 Pounds).  I have 3.48 Kgs to go!!!

I have found it immensley difficult just to try and change a few habits. ¬†Especially the ‘no eating after 8pm’ rule. ¬†That has been the biggest challenge EVER! ¬†Of course I have worked out a few small tricks to help me get through it. ¬†These tricks are written¬†in my earlier post In Other News.

So to start off my week, I will need a new challenge.  To begin, I think I will start with some form of exercise.   AAAARRGGHH the E word!!!!!   Wash your mouth out with chocolate!!!  Would be my normal reply.


But this week, I will be taking on an aquaerobics class.  Just once a week at this stage, as I am working, it is difficult for my schedule to work in with theirs.

Why am I choosing aquaerobics? Trust me its not just for old ladies. ¬†Tho it is quite beneficial for them. ¬†But I chose it because while I am bigger, the water hides my belly and the jelly when I move. ¬†So I can move as much as I can and not feel too self-conscious. Aquaerobics can also be done by all fitness types, so until I can get my fitness level up. ¬†I’ll be doing the best I can in the water.

Its hard work for a person such as myself to start doing physical exercise. ¬†The extent of my movement is walking from the train station to work and back again. ¬†That’s it. ¬†Also, I dont run. ¬†I just dont. ¬†EVER!!! I am a pretty big person and parts of me, do not want to run. ¬†If ever I do run, I feel a lot like Pheobe from FRIENDS…just bigger

So I am seeing some limitations. ¬† Despite this, I can walk, and I can cycle and I can lift and Im thinking I may not actually need to run. ¬†So my new goal for this week will be to find at least 15 mins a day of some sort of activity…shopping counts!!! online shopping does NOT.


So this week will see me dust off the cobwebs off the treadmill and hopefully I can get it started. It would be good to do it first thing in the morning.  But 15 minutes of extra sleep?  Its for the greater good!!!

Well that’s it for now. ¬†Wish me luck as I attempt to start waking up earlier ¬†for a 15 minute walk on the treadmill. ¬† I will blog again¬†probably Friday as I will HOPEFULLY have my scrapbooking supplies this week. ¬†SOOOOO excited to FINALLY begin!!! ¬†…If not…then at least I can tell you of my further progress this week.

In Other News…

To all my loyal blog followers!!!!  Good Morning!!!

It seems that I have not been able to do a scrapbook segment this week as some of my core materials that Ive ordered in haven’t arrived yet. ¬†NOOOO I have ordered an album, a couple of good adhesives, and some amazing scrapbook paper. ¬†I ordered them from a¬†great¬†online scrapbooking store. ¬†The sales are amazing!! ¬†I cant wait to really organise my space and get into it.


So instead of a scrapbooking segment this week, I will do a general update on my new weightloss rule:

No eating after 8pm

Of course this rule was a disaster at first. ¬† I would look at the clock, then look at the fridge, then look at the clock… and open¬†the fridge. ¬†I would convince myself that my tummy was rumbling. ¬†It really wasn’t as it was still full from dinner but whatever. ¬†I would still nosh nosh nosh on anything that looked small enough to sneak away, and filling enough to last a couple of episodes. ¬† My favourites were a bag of Doritos, ¬†a block of Cadbury, and a diet coke. ¬† OK seriously…how bad is that??? SOOOOO BAD!!!!!! ¬†I would like to clarify at this point that would go through a block of chocolate and large bag of Doritos a week, not every night so those of you who are staring at your screen in complete and utter horror…it was never as bad as that. ¬†snakediet

But then I found that chewing sugar-free gum before bed really helps to stem the cravings.  Hopefully I will be able to get to a point where I wont even need that.  Also having a mug of hot tea is really good too.  So far this has been the biggest hurdle yet.

Eating straight before bed used to be a nightly ritual. ¬†It was an absolutely terrible habit that I loved. ¬†Now I think of all that nasty stuff just sitting inside me all night. ¬†Its almost enough to make me gag. ¬†I beg of you, if you have this habit, please stop. ¬†Chew gum, drink tea, just don’t raid the fridge!! ¬†It is still a nightly struggle for me but hopefully over the weekend I can make it this stick without too much fuss.


So lets recap the changes I have been making

  1. Drink Water! – This has become habit now. ¬†I find I have absolutely no dramas in drinking water anymore. ¬†I used to avoid it like the plague. ¬†Now we drink juice infused water, hot peppermint tea…and if I have to drink plain water…I do it with a great swirly straw which makes it fun.
  2. Small Bowls – I used to eat out of this great big green bowl…it truly is massive. With big deep sides I could pile up my food to my hearts content. ¬†Now I have a glass bowl which is dramatically smaller in size. ¬†Even If I pile my food, it is still a lot smaller than what I was eating before.

Next week I think I will start adding in some exercises and then I will start weighing in.  Any ideas on the best way to do this? I was thinking every fortnight? Reader participation is a great way to help motivate and I hope you have some great ideas for me.

Ok readers that is all for now.  But as I work out this new blogging hobby of mine, I will find a scrapbooking schedule that will suit me.  For now tho, I will play it by ear and I hope you will all bear with me.

Week 2 weightloss, with a Sidenote

Well well…what can I say? ¬†What a weekend!!! ¬†My lil sis was married and the wedding was absolutely beautiful. ¬†The Bride was stunning and the Groom looked so happy as he watched his bride walk down the aisle. Sorry guys, no photos!! ¬†As specifically requested by the bride…at least not until she can pick the ones she likes. ¬†Fortunately for you, I can post a pic of me…the Maid of Honour. ¬†I will post again about the wedding sometime soon when I have more photos.


In the meantime, lets talk weight loss.

(In my best TV voice) ¬†Previously on Bubble-O-Manda…

I decided to use smaller bowls and drink more water.

It turns out I dont much like the taste of water. ¬†It feels boring and bland. ¬†Here are some tips I’ve found to enjoy drinking water a lot more.

  1. Water bottle Juice Infuser: ¬†Infusing your drinking water with fruit flavour is the best way I’ve found to enjoy water, just adds a lil something special.
  2. Herbal Tea:  Pretty much the same concept as the juice infuser.  My favourite tea to drink is Peppermint.  I love that minty freshness.
  3. Use a straw:  I LOVE STRAWS!!!!  find the funkiest straw you can find. This tip helped me a lot over the past week.


The smaller bowls are great to use.  Constantly filling up smaller bowls makes me feel like I am not skimping out. The fact is that I actually am eating healthier portions.

Moving on…

As I reviewed some of the photos taken of me at the wedding, I couldn’t help but notice big upper arms, and absolutely NO jawline!! So there I am, sticking out my neck as far as it will go, in the hope that I will at the very least, create a shadow under my chin.


Well if that doesn’t work, then I hope the photographer will take some creative license with Photoshop.

It truly does suck worrying about the photos people are taking, especially when you are begging them to take the photo ‘from above’. ¬† Heaven help me if they decide to take a full body shot. ¬†Just kill me.

So I have gone into this week with renewed invigoration,¬†a large 1.5L bottle of water, a set of small bowls and a brand new rule. ¬† No snacking after Dinner…In fact no eating after 8:00pm.

This last week I have noted this one habit I do constantly. ¬†At the end of the day, I like to hop into bed, watch a couple of episodes…and snack. ¬†My mums voice pops into my head “little pickers wear big knickers”. ¬†Chips, chocolate, you name it, I’d munch on it.


I’ll see how I go this week. I’ll be removing¬†all temptation: no more trips to Coles after work, no more ‘secret snack drawer’ …and absolutely no midnight trips to the fridge. ¬† I used to think that the whole reason for having a light in the fridge was for midnight snackage…why else would it be there?

Turns out, it’s for when I get old and cant see anymore.

Scrap it Beginnings

Oh my goodness, it seemed I got a bit busy on Wednesday with appointments… but better late than never.

Well my main goal in taking up Scrapbooking¬†is to record for myself and my family, all our precious memories. ¬†Having said that I’ve been looking at some pretty amazing pages that people have created and they are simply stunning…and I can feel pretty overwhelmed when I see them…will I ever be that good??…and not to mention all the different techniques you can use and even the equipment!! Good golly!!! Some of this stuff can be soooo super expensive. ¬†Fortunately I have seen some absolutely amazing pages that haven’t used a lot of these techniques and are just as effective.

I’m sure with trial and error and a hell of a lot of practise, I will be able to create something that others can marvel at.

About 5 years ago, I started scrapbooking…and I loved it. ¬†Unfortunately life got in the way and before I knew it, my album was collecting dust on the shelf. ¬†Here are a couple of pages I did back then. ¬†So they are pretty simple pages, but they mean a lot to me.

Recently I found a blog called A Beautiful Mess. ¬†These sisters are amazing at a lot of DIY projects aaaaand…SCRAPBOOKING!!! ¬†They do a segment called ‘Scrapbooking Sunday’ ¬†Which is a new handy hint each week, or a post from them or a fan with what they have created. ¬†It is very inspiring to go through all of their ideas. ¬†They assure me that you do not actually need a ton of stuff, to create really memorable pages. ¬† They seem to go along the lines of ‘less is more’, which is perfect for a beginner like me.

How scrapbookers see progress. ('I've been scrapbooking for ten years and I've got two pages done already!' 'Wow, you're fast!')

For now tho, I would like to go back to the basics.  Basic tools and materials needed to make a simple yet really meaningful page to display family photos.

So first up:

  • Scrapbooking Albums – these come in all sorts of colours and sizes. ¬†I tend to enjoy using the big 12″x 12″. ¬†Extra pages and arty crafty things are really easy to find for this size of Album. ¬† I think until I become a bit better at this, I will stick to the original.

  • Paper – Of course you need paper! This is probably the easiest thing to buy. ¬†It can be found¬†at craft stores, newsagencies, general stores. ¬†The online stores are worth a visit as well.¬† The range is unbelievable!! There are sooo many different types. ¬†I could spend literally hours in a craft store looking and marvelling at ¬†it all. ¬† I have learnt that I need to buy papers that are acid and lignin free, I have learnt that this is to prevent the photos from deteriorating…actually scrap that…anything you buy, be it adhesives, paper, embellishments…all need to be acid and lignin free.


  • A good pair of scissors and a good adhesive¬†– Good scissors are a must. ¬†A glue stick or glue dots or foam squares. ¬†Foam Squares are good as they lift the photo off the page slightly for a more dimensional effect. ¬† Again, any¬†adhesive must be acid free.


  • Journalling Pen – Journalling with your scrapbook pages is the best way to tell your viewer the story on the page. A¬†really cool effect that I have seen, is writing on top of photos. ¬†This is especially cool with photos where this is a lot of sky or darkness or big areas of a colour. ¬†I cant wait to try it out. ¬†So I’ve been looking at pens that would do the job. ¬†The first one is the UNI Ball Signo Impact White¬†– This is for white ink on dark photos, or paper. ¬† And the second one that I will try is the black¬†Zig Photo Signature Pen. ¬†For dark ink on light areas of colour.

Well that pretty much sums up the basics of tools you need to scrapbook.   I cant wait to get started.   Im still working on setting up a space to do it,  I still need a decent chair.  One of the things I would really like to try is going to a scrapbooking meet up.  There is a store locally that do it from 6pm-12am.  And people can go and do scrapbooking all night! They even give you access to machinery and the store, so you can literally do just about anything!  Mum said she would give it a try with me, after the wedding of course.  When all the crazy is over.  Speaking of, the wedding is this Saturday, stay tuned for photos!!!!!

Weight loss one baby step at a time

To all my readers, however many you are…HELLO!!!!!! ¬†This is my second post!!!

For the last two days I have been planning what to post this day. ¬†Its Monday, the start of a week and what better day to start one of my goals? ¬† The biggest goal I have and I’ve had it for many years is to lose this jelly belly!! …and my jelly arms… I wave to someone…I stop waving…my arm keeps waving.

For all of you who are unaware, only in the last year have Krispy Kreme restaurants come to Western Australia, for my taste buds, it has been the best 6 months of my life. ¬†How I love my KK’s. ¬†So golden and glazed, soft and moist… Im so glad they are an hour drive from me or I would be there at least twice a week.


I always say I’m going to start a diet, and then someone in the room will laugh, I’ll give you a hint, its me.

Getting into the right frame of mind to motivate myself to start a diet, of course is like the hardest thing EVER!! Not to mention all the food I cant eat…peanut butter M&M’s…Im talking about YOU! ¬†What is a diet anyway? ¬†I don’t know about you, but for me a diet seems to be an acronym. ¬†D.I.E.T… Did I Eat That? or ¬†Did I Even Try?

I usually associate the term ‘Diet’ with words like: deprivation, disappointment, hunger, guilt, suffering. ¬†How familiar does this sound? ¬† I thought about joining Lite n Easy, Jenny Craig, Tony Furguson etc…but I think the only thing losing weight would be my purse!

WELL SCREW IT!! I will not be Dieting!!!!  I will be making a healthy lifestyle change, one baby step at a time.  It will be slow so that each change I make will become a habit.  I guess by making it a habit, I hope to be able to maintain any weight loss I achieve.

While I feel that this is rock bottom for me, the only place I have to go is up. ¬†So I will begin with my first step: Buying a few smaller bowls. ¬†That way when I fill it up I will feel like I’m eating more when I’m actually eating less. ¬†WHAAAAT? handy lil trick me thinks. ¬†Also at least 1 litre of water a day, this will probably send me running to the loo every 15 minutes. ¬†But its worth it.


Because I have been overweight for so long, I am nervous about saggy skin. ¬†I have heard¬†that if I lose weight slowly and drink plenty of water, my skin should retain enough elasticity for it not to be too much of a problem. ¬†Lets try it out. ¬†The younger you are, the easier it is for your skin to bounce back. ¬†Praying and praying that I am young enough!!!! ¬†*nervously glances at calendar*…its already August???…2015??? YIKES!!!!!!!

I think Mondays will have to be lose weight segment.  Why not? Seems to be the best day for it!

Wednesday I will be looking at the basics of scrapbooking.  A new hobby to take my mind off all my KK cravings.

The start of a new beginning…

So you might think that starting a new chapter, or a new anything in the middle of August is very strange…and I would agree with you…but I hear that there is no time like the present, so WOOOHOOOO! ¬†I’m starting a blog today!

My name is Amanda…aka…Manda, Bubbles or on rare occasion…Mandy. ¬†I decided to name this blog after my favourite childhood ice cream: Bubble-o-Bill. ¬†It was a super tasty cowboy who had a great big bubble gum nose…Ice cream and Bubblegum?!!! 2 for the price of one! I thought it was the bees knees then¬†one day when I was very small, Dad was teaching me to blow a bubble. ¬†In my first attempt at blowing a bubble, I happened to misdirect my air, and spat the gum clear across the front of the car and it landed on the carpeted flooring. ¬†I couldnt stop laughing but Dad was so not impressed. ¬†I was only allowed to practise outside from then on…I dont know why… ūüėõ


I guess I decided to write this blog as a hobby, a way for me to record my progress, things I learn, useful hints I can share…picking up some readers along the way would be bonus!

A bit about me: ¬†I live in Perth, Western Australia. ¬†Its hot here in the summer, windy and rainy in the winter. ¬†I come from a family of 5. ¬†Mum, Dad, Kathy and Trev, my younger sister and brother. ¬†Yes I am the oldest. ¬†It came with its perks…and a few cons. ¬† We are a pretty average family…with a lot of twisted humour. ¬† I cant wait to share all the fun I have over the next half of this year with you! ¬†I already have an exciting week long trip planned for Taiwan in November, also, my sisters wedding next week and in the mean time I will be trying to lose a few kilos, and learn a hobby or two.

I would like to post at least once a week or maybe more…find my groove.
